SANDAKAN – The youth should concentrate on education and beneficial activities including strengthening one’s identity, character and leadership.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said this was an important aspect because whatever policies and initiatives as well as the provisions set aside by the government for the youth, it would not attain its goal without the support, involvement and commitment from the youth themselves.
“This year, for the first time in the state history, some RM10 million out of a total RM53 million has been allocated for the development of youth and sports which shows the government is very concerned about the youth’s future needs,” he said when officiating the ‘Empowering Youth Leadership Seminar’ in Sandakan, Friday.
The seminar was jointly organised by the Yayasan Sabah Group, Sandakan Municipal Council, State Youth and Sports Ministry for Sandakan district and community development leader units of Gum Gum, Sungai Sibuga, Sekong, Karamunting, Elopura and Tanjung Papat state constituencies.
Musa, who is also Yayasan Sabah Group Board of Trustees chairman, said the youth should have established strong identity in facing any challenges, especially in today’s sophisticated technology on information and communications.
Meanwhile, the Yayasan director Datuk Sapawi Ahmad said the programme today was to empower the youths in various aspects and to foster relationship between youth and the government agencies that provided a variety of training and business opportunities.
