Yahya Hussin, Former Sabah Deputy CM, Appointed MUIS President

KOTA KINABALU: Former Sabah deputy chief minister Datuk Yahya Hussin has been appointed as the Sabah Islamic Religious Council (MUIS) president, while independent preacher Malai Ali Malai Ahmad as MUIS deputy president, effective today.

Chief Minister Datuk Hajiji Noor presented the appointment letters to Yahya, 71, who is also the former Petagas State Assemblyman, and Malai Ali, 57, a former officer of the Sabah Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JHEAINS), at the State Administrative Centre here today.

The Sabah Chief Minister’s Department, in a statement, said Yahya was replacing Datuk Dr Hasbullah Mohd Taha, while Malai Ali took over from Datuk Matussin Awang Damit.

According to the statement, Hajiji also presented the appointment letter to the new Sabah Baitulmal Corporation deputy chairman Ag Syairin Ag Bakar, 60, a former senior officer of MUIS and JHEAINS, who was replacing Abdul Rahman Md Yacob.

Yahya served as the Sabah Deputy Chief Minister from March 2004 to May 2018 under the administration of Tan Sri Musa Aman as Chief Minister.
