KOTA KINABALU: Anticipating a hefty bail for Shafie Apdal, their president, Parti Warisan Sabah has started a public campaign to raise the necessary funds.
The campaign, dubbed, ‘RM10 each, solidarity with DSSA’ (Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal) is being spearheaded by Wira and Wirawati – the youth and young women’s wings.
Junz Wong, the Warisan Sabah vice president, said they hoped to raise at least RM300,000 by Friday, the day Shafie is expected to be released on bail under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
“If just a small number of the three million people in Sabah can give RM10, we will have more than enough,” he told reporters Tuesday.
Junz, who is also Likas Assemblyman however admitted they did not know how much bail would be set, apart from saying that they expected it to be a hefty amount.
He said they also expected the legal bill to be a huge one – apart from Shafie, three other Warisan leaders, Peter Anthony (vice president), Mohd Azis Jamman (Youth Chief) and Amarjit Singh (Putatan leader) – had been under MACC investigation.
“So whatever amount is raised will also go towards the legal expenses,” he explained, saying whatever sum was raised would be deposited into a trustee account under lawyer Hamid Ismail’s firm.
The details are Hamid & Co, CIMB Bank, 1007 – 000 – 5602 – 058.
The account comes into effect Wednesday.
Shafie was detained by the MACC last Thursday and is currently under remand at the MACC lockup as graft busters investigate alleged misappropriation of funds involving rural projects in Sabah.
He is being remanded until Friday.
According to Junz, several people had also pledged to support the campaign.
Also present at the press conference was Aziz, Nicholas, Jo-Anna and Honorsius Bosuin, the party’s Information chief.
