LABUAN: The upgrading works of the water treatment plant in Kinabenua, Kampung Sungai Bedaun is expected to be fully complete by the end of this year.
Labuan Water Department Director Muhammad Zulkeflee Yusof said the RM8 million project involved the expansion and deepening of the existing water reservoirs to increase the water resource capacity in Labuan.
The Kinabenua water treatment plant upgrading project started in Oct last year under the 11th Malaysia Plan, which will benefit thousands of residents around Kampung Sg Bedau, he told reporters after accompanying Senator Datuk Bashir Alias visit to the plant today.
“The water reservoir has been upgraded to 100-metres (m) long and 200-m wide with a depth of five-m in order to supply three million litres of water per day to consumers up to two weeks if there any issues faced at the Air Lawa water treatment plant at Gadong Beaufort Sabah,” he added.
Labuan currently relies on 90 per cent of its water supply through seawater pipes from Beaufort.
Meanwhile, Bashir hopes the project would be completed on schedule while thanking the government for approving the projects that were of priority to the Labuan people.
