NEW YORK – Just settling down to lunch? Good. But chances are you won’t be sinking your gnashers into anything quite like this.
Behold, the 24K pizza, a wood-fired pie sprinkled with 24-carat gold leaves.
According to Town & Country, the creation is a new offering by Industry Kitchen in New York’s South Street Seaport.
Its star ingredients are white stilton cheese from England, foie gras and truffles from France, Ossetra caviar from the Caspian Sea and edible gold flakes from Ecuador.
The 24K will set a diner with deep pockets back US$2,000 (RM,8,977) — or US$250 a slice — or around US$50 per bite.
Executive Chef Braulio Bunay told Town & Country that he was inspired to create the over-the-top indulgence by the nearby Financial District.
“It is the epitome of decadence,” he was quoted as saying. “The pizza is extremely rich — if you’re in the mood for a lavish meal, this is the pizza for you.”
Don’t all rush there at once, if you have a sudden craving for gold pizza. The restaurant requires 48 hours’ notice to whip up your decadent delight.
