LABUAN – The unusual behaviour of her teenage daughter led a mother to enquire about the girl’s virginity, and this in turn saw the arrests of two men – her boyfriend as well as his uncle.
The mother coaxed her daughter into revealing what was bothering her, and after a while, the Form 1 victim confided that she was raped by her uncle.
A police report was immediately lodged.
Labuan police chief, Superintendent Adzhar Othman said the two suspects, aged 17 and 30, were detained after the police report was lodged on Monday.
He said the older man was picked up at 3.15pm at his house in Kg Ganggarak on Monday itself, while the boyfriend was detained the following day at 9.50am.
“The alleged crime first took place in December between 8.30am and 11pm at the victim’s grandmother’s house in Simpang Malboro, Kg Ganggarak,” said Supt Adzhar.
The victim in her report, claimed the rape was committed by her own uncle, who then told her not to tell anyone.
According to Supt Adzhar, the girl was taken to the hospital where a medical examination on the victim, however revealed there were old and fresh tears on the victim’s hymen (private part), and after further questioning, admitted to being raped by her boyfriend.
The second rape was allegedly committed in June around 4.30pm in Kg Simpang 26, Kg Lajau.
Said Supt Adzhar: “In her first statement, the victim only confessed to the rape by her uncle. She only agreed to give a second confession after being told of the (medical) examination’s result.
“We were also told the families of both the victim and the boyfriend are close,” he added.
The offence is classified as statutory rape, and the case is being investigated under Section 376 (1) of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum jail sentence of 20 years, and also liable to whipping, upon conviction.
