KUALA LUMPUR – Two UMNO youth wings, the Pemuda and Puteri movements expressed their readiness to step up efforts and plans to tackle various issues blanketing the public in making a better Malaysia.
Both wings’ representatives when met by Bernama noted that the issues included the increase in the cost of living, the lack of job opportunities, the poverty rate and education.
On this, UMNO Puteri Chief Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said, the movement’s machinery had already begun collecting information from the public and had even doubled up their attempts in engaging them.
“The tasks of Puteri and Pemuda (in championing the people’s issues) are big, there are many approaches and things that we need to implement. I can’t do this alone.
“I call upon the young generation to come together with us in overcoming these issues,” she said.
Sharing her views, UMNO Yoputh Information chief Jamawi Jaafar said, the wing had executed and strengthened various touch points which were seen important to provide a better quality of life for the people.
This, Jamawi said, was done solely as responsibility towards the people, and not to lobby them to join UMNO.
“Membership is up to them, there are some among the younger generation who are actually members of opposition parties, but decided to vote for Barisan Nasional as they can see the differences between the two sides,” he said.
Jamawi said, the younger generation needed ‘someone’ who could always be with them in the struggle to enjoy a better quality of life, whereby politics often was not a priority in their struggles.
