Umno-BN Has Shown Total Absence Of Mutual Respect And ‘Power Sharing’

COMMENT: The incident during a Barisan Nasional function in Matunggong recently where Zahid Hamidi, the deputy Prime Minister had openly and boastfully humiliated Maximus Ongkili and Joseph Pairin Kitingan in front of thousands of Momogun Rungus.

Pairin is also hailed as the Huguan Siou of the Rungus and this goes to show the true colours of Umno leaders as to their attitude toward the Kadazan Dusun people. Zahid’s sarcastic and humiliating comments show that the KDM people can be subjugated to the whims and fancies of the Malay ruling class.

My sympathy is to the PBS leadership particularly to Maximus Ongkili. It is a wakeup call for the Kadazandusun that this is the culmination of the attitude toward the community. It shows total absence of mutual respect and power sharing within BN.

PBS now wants to use their own symbol in the election. This is not enough to redeem PBS from the extreme humiliation exerted by the deputy Prime Minister on the party. The humiliation is not only on PBS but also on the whole Kadazandusun because Maximus is a Kadazandusun leader more so because Pairin was present at the function.

This is the opportunity for PBS to make the critical decision to redeem themselves by taking a brave decision to quit BN and join us to fight for the dignity of the community. If PBS continues to stick with BN in spite of the humiliation then the people will reject them in this election.
