SANDAKAN – Two sisters, Nurul Natasha, 11, and Nurul Musdalifah, 10, perished in a fire at Kampung Baru, Batu 18, near here Monday night.
Their charred remains were recovered in a house that was razed by fire, along with than of Osman Lawidu, 60, after the blaze was put off at about 1.30am Tuesday.
It was not immediately ascertained as to the man’s relationship to the two young girls.
The three charred remains were found inside the house when firemen were dousing the fire, and were taken away by medics to the Duchess of Kent Hospital.
According to a statement from the Fire and Rescue Department, a distress call was received at 9.30pm and 10 fire fighters and two fire engines from the Sandakan Fire and Rescue Department arrived at the scene which was situated 27km away at 10.11pm.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
