Two Teachers Killed In Road Crash

KOTA KINABALU: A newly-wed was among two teachers killed in a car crash as they headed for work in Tawau this morning.

In the 6am mishap, Dayana Damsah, 27, who had just got married 10 days ago, died while being rushed to a health clinic in Merotai.

Her friend Nurizyani Kafli, 24, in the meantime succumbed to injuries while being treated at the emergency unit at the Tawau Hospital several hours later.

One of their colleagues, Nurzairah Aladin, 35, suffered chest injuries and a broken arm while the driver, aged 38, sustained minor injuries.

It was learned the women were heading from Taman Semarak for work at Sekolah Kebangsaan Umas-Umas when they crashed and subsequently landed on a riverbank at Km32 Jalan Tawau-Kalabakan .

Tawau Police Chief ACP Peter Umbuas said early police investigations found the driver had lost control of the vehicle shortly before the crash.

District Fire and Rescue Chief Zulbada Alior said all the victims were thrown out of the car on impact.
