LABUAN: Holidays are a time of fun and celebration, but some have a deeper meaning.
Merdeka Day celebrated on the 31st August is all about sacrifice, independence, and freedom.
Babies born on or around the day of the celebration are probably the perfect candidates for a name inspired by the holiday.
At least three babies were born on Merdeka Day in Labuan with recorded time were almost simultaneously from 8 to 10pm last night.
A private sector employee Vivie Murhizawatie Murkam, 36, from Bukit Kuda said she gave birth to her second child, a baby boy weighing 2.98kg cesarean delivery at 8.02pm last night.
Her waters broke at around 12 noon yesterday but not much contractions and she was immediately sent to the hospital for a thorough checks.
“We’re so excited to share the wonderful news of the birth of our son coincided with the country’s 62nd Merdeka Day,” she said whose husband is a civil servant of Labuan Water Department.
Second baby weighing 2.68kg was born at 8.44pm by an 18-year-old mother, Siti Aineh Haidil.
And the third baby boy with 2.62kg weight was delivered at 10.34pm by a 19-year-old mother, Noorhidayahnih Rasmi@Rosni.
Labuan Health Department director Dr Ismuni Bohari said it was a pride of Labuan having Merdeka-born babies.
“Congrats to the family and this delightful twist on their special day,” he said.
Hospital Nucleus director Dr. Adnan Musa Balidran echoed Dr Ismuni’s brief statement, saying that the hospital would do its level best to provide efficient and ethical services to the patients.
Member of Parliament Datuk Rozman Isli was also at the hospital to welcome the newly-born babies and congratulated the families.
He also presented gifts to all the three families.
