Teenage Girl Held After Stillborn Birth

KOTA KINABALU: A young local girl who gave birth to a stillborn baby was arrested on suspicion of deliberately causing the miscarriage in Labuan yesterday.

The 18-year-old had gone to the hospital to deliver the baby but medical staff suspected something was amiss.

And after a check, they found the suspect had taken certain medication apparently to abort her pregnancy.

“The suspect is believed to have taken some medication to cause a miscarriage in May this year and the last time last Tuesday,” said Labuan Police Chief Supt Muhamad Farid Ahmad.

“The baby boy weighed about 1.04kg and is believed to be about seven-months-old.”

He said they had received a report from a medical officer from the hospital who told police the woman had arrived at their facility at about 7.45am.

She was arrested the same day at 3.36pm, he said, adding the woman was being kept under surveillance at the hospital ward for the time being.
