Sandakan Records New Case

KOTA KINABALU: A four-day stretch of zero cases in the state ended today with Sandakan recording one new Covid-19 patient.

Health and People’s Well-being Minister Datuk Frankie Poon said with the new case Sandakan has now been reclassified as a yellow zone.

It was learned that the imported case involved a non-citizen who had returned from Pakistan.

Keningau, meanwhile, has been declared a green zone with one recovery registered in the district.

To date, Sabah has recorded a total of 381 cases and 371 recoveries.

There are three remaining active cases in the state with one each in Sandakan, Nabawan and Tuaran.

Nationwide, a total of 18 new cases were reported today, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 8,755.

Of the 18 cases, 10 are imported cases while the rest are local transmissions.

Four new clusters involving Malaysians and non-Malaysians were also reported, namely the Pitakwa persons under investigation (PUI) cluster in Hulu Terengganu Hospital, Shirala PUI cluster at Sungai Buloh Hospital, Kuching Medical Centre cluster and Jupiter cluster in Bintulu.

Three more patients had recovered and were discharged today, tallying the number of recovered patients in Malaysia to 8,541 which also translates to a recovery rate of 97.6 per cent.

With the latest recoveries, Malaysia is left with only a total of 92 active cases.

The overall number of Covid-19 fatalities remains at 122.
