SANDAKAN: Sabah Wildlife Department seized remains of protected wildlife from two men after stopping a four-wheel-drive vehicle in a roadblock operation on Jalan Paitan, Beluran yesterday.
According to a Bernama report, Sandakan district Wildlife Officer Hussein Muin said the seizure involves a deer, two foxes, a python and parts of a wild boar’s body, feet and heads, all were concealed in a cooler box unit.
The seizure was carried out following possession of wildlife products without a permit under the Wildlife Conservation Enactment 1997, he said in a statement here Monday.
He said the two men were locals, aged 33 and 34.
He said the roadblock was carried out at 6.54am on public tip-off involving three staff of the Wildlife Department led by Wildlife assistant Mohd Aznandy Md Yakub and assisted by two Honorary Wildlife Wardens.
He said a police report on the seizure was lodged at the Beluran Police Station and all the animal remains were seized for further investigation.
