KOTA KINABALU – Stung by accusations that the recent Sabah Water Department scandal was related to UMNO Kimanis, and to him as well, Minister of Foreign Affairs Malaysia, Datuk Seri Anifah Aman on Friday evening denied all being spread on social media.

Anifah described the these allegations as preposterous and false, warning he would not hesitate to take legal action should such defamatory statements continue to be published.

All hell broke loose on Wednesday when the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission disclosed a ruthless stunt by Sabah Water Department bigwigs linked with more than RM115 million in graft accusations.

Sabah Water Department director Ag Tahir Ag Talib and his deputy Teoh Chee Kong were given water contracts worth millions for RM3.3bil worth of federal projects since 2010.

When arrested, they were also found in possession of some RM53 million in cash and valuables, in various places including their offices, homes and even car-boot, plus another RM60 million stashed in overseas bank accounts.

It was then that Whatsapp became active with unsourced claims that Ag Tahir was the Treasurer of Kimanis Umno.

Anifah’s Press secretary, Datin Nirvana Jalil had earlier Friday denied these allegations, when asked by media on Whatsapp.

MACC sources have said the 54-year-old director and his 52-year-old deputy will be made to declare all their assets under Section 36 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Act 2009 as the MACC wants comprehensive details of their wealth.

The full text of the statement: –

“I refer to allegations being circulated that the recent arrests of two top officers of the Sabah Water Department and seizures of cash, jewelleries and assets by MACC are related to UMNO Kimanis and I as the Minister of Foreign Affairs Malaysia.

“These allegations are preposterous and false.

“UMNO Kimanis and I are not in any way involved or implicated in the case under investigation. Let MACC do its job fairly and properly without interference.

“We would not hesitate to take any legal action should these defamatory statements continue to be published.”
