KOTA KINABALU – Sabah hopes to continue to leverage on similarities it shares with China for greater prosperity for both regions.
Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said with the state further developing in future, more cooperation in various fields would be expected through the facilitation of the China Consulate General here.
“The Sabah government will continue to provide support for newer undertakings where possible.
“I trust the relationship between China and Malaysia, specifically between the different regions in China and Sabah, will continue to flourish in years to come,” he said.
Musa said this in his speech text delivered by Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan at the consulate general’s Chinese lunar new year reception here, Thursday night.
He said in the last 43 years of Malaysia-China diplomatic relations, both countries maintained good ties through various efforts and adopted similar priorities in sustaining peace, harmony and development.
“This has allowed Malaysia and China to collaborate on a range of fields, setting a good example in the region of friendly cooperation that mutually benefits the people of both countries,” he said.
Musa was also happy to note the consulate general’s efforts in strengthening its relationship with Sabah through education, culture, tourism and trade collaborations.
He said the consulate-general not only provided support to the Chinese communities in the state but also other ethnic groups, such as charitable acts.
“This is truly another testimony of the integral and strategic alliance partnership between Malaysia and China as well as a warm illustration of familiarity of the people of both countries,” he said.
Musa also said the consulate general had demonstrated sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness that were features of China’s President Xi Jinping’s foreign policy.
