RANAU: Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal today said Sabah needs to be a model of a strong spirit of unity despite its racial and religious diversity.
In that context, he said it was vital for the people to show respect for each other’s race and religion, and to inculcate this respect among the younger generation who will lead the nation into the future.
“Do not instil hatred just because we are of different race, religion or territory,” he said in his speech at the launch of state-level National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign here.
Mohd Shafie said the Ranau, instead of other big towns in Sabah, was selected to host the launching ceremony of the campaign to enable people living in rural areas to take part in the programme.
The fact that today’s ceremony had gone well, showed that the love for the country was ever-present among the people, Shafie said, adding that it was important to not just love the country but to also contribute towards its development.
Present were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau, Infrastructure Development Minister Datuk Peter Anthony, who is heading the state-level National Day celebrations for this year.
