KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) Sabah branch received RM500,000 from the Sabah United Chinese Chamber of Commerce (SUCCC) today to help with medical needs and particularly the fight against COVID-19.
The donation made by SUCCC president, Tan Sri Andrew Liew to MMA Sabah chairman, Prof Dr Kew Seih Teck, during a ceremony at the Sabah State Administrative Centre (PPNS) was witnessed by Sabah Chief Minister, Datuk Hajiji Noor.
Prof Kew said it is extremely helpful for equipping hospitals with more ventilators.
At the same ceremony, Sabah Finance Ministry permanent secretary, Rusdin Riman, gave a donation of RM13,500 from the ministry’s Islamic charity to Hajiji for the State Covid-19 Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).
Hajiji said the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government encourages and appreciates donations from the private sector, non-governmental organisations, charities and more to fight COVID-19 together.
He was infected with COVID-19 last October and would not wish it on anybody, adding: “I hope everyone in Sabah will work together to eliminate COVID-19. Follow the SOP and don’t let your guard down.”
