KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Land and Survey Department director Datuk Safar Untong has been appointed the new state secretary (SS), effective Nov 4.
He replaces Datuk Hashim Paijan who retired on Nov 2.
Safar received his appointment letter during the state post-cabinet that was followed by the handing over of duties at the State Government Administrative Centre here today.
In his statement, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said the state government appointed Safar as the new SS due to his vast experience in the state’s public sector.
Safar, 55, began his career in the civil service in October 1987 as a district surveyor.
The holder of Bachelor of Science (Land Administration and Development) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia had served in various capacities, including superintendent of land and survey prior to becoming the department’s director in 2015.
The Beaufort-born also a member in several professional organisations, including a Fellow of Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia and a member of Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyor United Kingdom.
