Sabah APM Mobilises 1,000 Personnel To Face Floods

KOTA KINABALU: A total of 1,000 personnel of the Sabah Civil Defence Force (APM) Sabah have been mobilised in preparation for any possibilities of floods, following the arrival of the northeast monsoon beginning this month until March next year.

Its director Colonel Kamal Mokhtar said all personnel involved had been mobilised to the their designated locations and they were ready and prepared at all times.

“All personnel involved are those who are skilled as well as both physically and mentally prepared. They have also taken adequate courses in dealing with disasters,” he said in a statement here today.

Kamal said they were also trained in real disaster situations during simulation exercises with several agencies such as police, fire and rescue department as well as hospital.

“Among the areas most likely to be hit by the northeast monsoon are the coastal areas of Sabah such as Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Kota Belud. However, thus far, there have been no report of floods in those areas,” he said.
