RM2.4 Mln In Aid Disbursed During Ramadhan In Labuan

LABUAN: A total of RM2.44 million was disbursed under various assistance schemes provided by the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP), during the second week of Ramadan in the duty-free-island.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Ahmad Marzuk Shaary said the assistance schemes were the Bantuan Ihya’ Ramadan, Dapur It’am, Musaadah Tijariyah (for business activities and business startup capital), muaalaf group (Muslim converts), kitchen assistance scheme for Asnaf (eligible tithe recipient) and Wakaf assistance scheme for the Labuan Nuqleus Hospital.

“A total of RM759,000 was disbursed last night for the Dapur It’am programme which provides breaking-fast meals for the asnaf group, COVID-19 frontliners and the needy, RM1.23 million for Musaadah Tijariyah Programme, RM271, 000 to surau and mosques for religious activities, and the remaining for other programmes,” he said at a programme with orphans and asnaf at the Darul Kifayah Complex, here tonight.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Marzuk said the RM8.6 million Sungai Bedaun mosque project is almost complete and is expected to receive its congregation in June this year.

“I visited the project site today and it is now 80 per cent complete…I also visited the construction project of a religious school in Kg Sg Bedaun which is estimated to cost over RM70 million and several mosques that are undergoing refurbishment works costing RM2.3 million.

“MAIWP is doing its best to provide conducive facilities for the Muslim community in Labuan,” he said.

Earlier, he presented ‘duit raya’ to 92 Asnaf children in conjunction with the coming Aidilfitri celebration which is also part of the MAIWP’s annual corporate social responsibility initiative.
