Ranau Farmer Accidentally Shoots Himself With ‘Bakakuk’

RANAU: A 48-year-old farmer who accidentally shot himself with his homemade gun (bakakuk) succumbed to his injury after slipping while carrying the gun at Kampung Togis here, Monday.

According to Ranau District Police Chief Deputy Superintendent Sammy Newton, the farmer quickly rang his son to inform about the untoward event that happened at his own farm around 8.50pm, about six hours after he left home.

He said, the son rushed to the scene after receiving the panic call and found that the victim’s back waist was already covered in blood.

“However, the farmer passed away while receiving medical treatment at Hospital Ranau,” he disclosed.

Sammy stated that the son lodged a police report on the incident at the Ranau District Police Headquarters (IPD) at about 2.09am.

“For now, the case is classified as sudden death registry (SDR) but investigation will still be carried on,” he noted.
