Power Supply To Sarawak’s Two Border Districts Restored

KUCHING: Power supply to two districts in the southern part of Sarawak close to the Malaysia-Indonesia border was restored today after it had been disrupted since Wednesday night due to landslides.

Sarawak Energy Bhd (SEB), in a statement, said the supply to Bau district as well as Sematan, Lundu town and Telok Melano in Lundu district was restored at 6.37 am following completion of overnight repair works.

It said heavy rain last night delayed works to repair the electrical pole and underground cable damaged by the two landslides and soil erosion, which affected about 9,000 customers in the districts.

According to SEB, the first power line was reported to have tripped at about 11.30 pm on Wednesday, followed by the second line at about 10.45 am yesterday.

“(Initially), repair efforts were hampered by unsafe site conditions due to landslide and the area inaccessibility due to flood waters,” said the statement.
