BINTULU: Diving teams will scour the area in the waters of Bintulu as the search and rescue for victims of a boat which sank in the area enters its second day today.
Sarawak Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) in a statement today said a request was made for the agency to assist in determining the boat registration number.
“We have been called as our diving services are required check if there are victims trapped in the fiber boat, ” said the statement.
The search and rescue operation for the missing boat was expanded to cover an area of 12.6 square nautical miles yesterday and so far there has been no report of fishermen being lost or missing.
A rescue operation was mounted at 10.15am yesterday after an unnumbered orange fiber boat was sighted about 40 nautical miles from Bintulu at 9.35am yesterday.
