KOTA KINABALU: An ice-skating rink at a shopping centre in Bandar Sierra, Jalan Tuaran Bypass near here, is among the latest attractions in Sabah.
According to a Bernama report, the 279-square metre rink was opened to the public since last month.
Manager of the entertainment arena at the shopping centre, Jur Rahmi Jabir said the rink, the one and only in Sabah, provided an opportunity for the people in the state to have fun skating activity with family and friends.
“The response has been overwhelming, with more than 200 people coming to skate on the first day itself, which exceeded our target of only 50 people,” she said when met by Bernama here.
She said synthetic ice was used for the skating rink as it did not require huge capital and the maintenance cost was lower compared with real ice, while a special lubricant, obtained from the Malaysia National Ice Skating Stadium (MyNISS), was used to ensure smoothness of the floor surface.
Admission to the ice-skating rink is RM8 for children and RM12 for adult on Monday to Friday, while on weekends, it is RM10 for children and RM15 for adults, inclusive of the skating equipment.
The skating rink is opened from 10 am to 10 pm every day.
