Overstayers Among 420 Ordered Back Home

KOTA KINABALU: Eleven overstayers from Pakistan, China and Sri Lanka were among 420 people sent back to their home countries today.

A total of 409 Indonesian illegal immigrants were deported to Nunukan, Indonesia via sea from Tawau while the 11 were ordered to return home via air routes.

National Security Council director for Sabah, Sitti Saleha Habib, said this brought the total number of deportees to 4, 355 people to date.

“Prior to their deportation, these people were tested for Covid-19 and those who free of the virus are allowed to leave,” she said.

Also involved in assisting the deportation were the Immigration Department and other security agencies.

Sitti thanked the governments of origin for their cooperation in the handling of these deportations.

“Let us all protect this country from illegal immigrants, do not harbour or employ illegal immigrants,” Sitti said, urging all Malaysians to work together in protecting the state’s and nation’s borders.
