SEMPORNA: Police have ruled out foul play, for now, when confirming the death of a 53-year-old Chinese tourist who was found dead on Sunday while on a diving at Barracuda Point off Sipadan Island here.

Semporna police chief Supt Peter Umbuas confirmed the incident when contacted but did not want to give details just yet, saying, “we have ruled out foul play for now.”

He said the victim was among 11 tourists who had gone diving in the area at 6.44am.

They were diving at Barracuda Point when he went missing.

Their dive master, 26-year-old Ismail Abd Masir who did a headcount 10 minutes into the dive, began searching for Ng immediately after he realised one of them was missing.

He then notified Sabah Parks staff at about 8.15am after other divers in the area could not find Ng. A Royal Malaysian Navy and Sabah Parks team began a search.

Esscom personnel also helped in the search.

Ng was found unconscious at about 8.55am and he was taken to the Semporna hospital where he was pronounced dead.
