SANDAKAN: A 20-year-old woman and her two toddlers were burnt to death in a fire incident at a floating village in Kampung Seng Kee, Tanah Merah, Batu Sapi here, this morning.
The charred remains of Afikah Sulaiman, Nurul Katrishah Aiman, 3, and Mohd Sharil Aiman, 1, were found in one of the houses by firefighters who were inspecting the scene after putting out the fire.
Sabah Fire and Rescue Department director Kamarulzaman Malik Abdullah said a fire team had rushed to the scene after the department received a distress call on the incident at 6.34 am.
“About 30 houses were gutted down in the incident,” he said when met by reporters here today.
Kamarulzaman Malik said the department was still investigating the cause of the incident.
Meanwhile, Sandakan district police chief ACP Mohd Azhar Hamin said the bodies had been sent to the Duchess of Kent Hospital for post-mortem.
He said the fire also caused a 50-year-old man to suffer burns. He was later sent to the same hospital for treatment.
