KOTA KINABALU: More than 60 participants are expected to take part in the Pesta Kaamatan (harvest festival)’s Unduk Ngadau pageant this year, which will be held at the Sabah Kadazan Dusun Cultural Association (KDCA)’s Hongkod Koisaan Hall on May 31.
Statel-level Unduk Ngadau Committee chairman Jo-Anna Sue Henley Rampas said thus far some 56 participants had signed up for the annual beauty queen contest.
“The age limit of the participants this year has also been raised to 27, from 25, as previously practiced, to make room for those who are still studying to participate in the Unduk Ngadau event,” she told a media conference here today.
Jo-Anna, who is also political secretary to Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, said the winner of Unduk Ngadau would be involved with several projects including cultural education, community projects and services as well as tourism ambassador.
She said the competition would encourage young people to contribute in the community.
The competition was also serve as the platform to highlight the roles of women from various aspects of community development.
