More Taiwanese Expected Come to Sandakan Next Year

KOTA KINABALU: Sandakan will expect the arrival of tourists from Taiwan on a scheduled direct charter flight initiated by Pelancongan Taikar Worldmart starting January 2020.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Christina Liew said, the company expects to bring in some 1,400 Taiwanese to Sandakan and the move is a good start for this major East coast town.

“This is another good news for Sandakan Tourism after Royal Brunei Airlines launched its inaugural flight from Bandar Sri Begawan to Sandakan recently. There will be more charter flights coming into Sandakan but we need to make sure our tourism packages and services are in place to accommodate a large number of tourist arrivals,” she said during a courtesy call from Pelancongan Taikar Worldmart Sdn Bhd’s Manager Eddie K.S Chan, here on Monday.

Briefing the Minister on the flights schedule, Eddie said that there will be a total of 12 flights from a 166-seater aircraft from Taipei to Sandakan for the entire year (2020). He also noted that with the collaboration of Sunrise Express Travel Services Co. Ltd from Taiwan, they have taken the lead to launch ‘5 days-4 nights’ Sandakan packages in order to attract more tourists to Sandakan.

Also present were the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Datuk William Baya and STB Senior Marketing Manager Tay Shu Lan.
