MMEA Reaches Out To Woman In Labour

SANDAKAN: She must have had harrowing moments wondering how she was going to go through childbirth on her own.

Villager Aminah Ottoh, 35, would have been therefore very relieved when she heard that help was on the way.

Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) officers who were alerted of her situation quickly readied a boat, Banggi 44, to ferry a medical team to her aid at Kampung Tundun Bohangin, Kinabatangan, yesterday.

The team, including community nurses, managed to get to the village, which is about a hour’s boat ride from here, just in time to help Aminah safely deliver a baby girl at about 10am.

On the advice of the medical personnel, the MMEA then took both mother and child in the boat to the maritime jetty here from where they were transferred by ambulance to the Duchess of Kent Hospital for post-natal care.
