Merrier Christmas For 15 Rungus Families Who Moved To New Longhouse

MATUNGGONG – Some 100 people in Kampung Membatu Laut Baru, here, received an early Christmas present after finally moving comfortably into their new homes.

The structures, benefitting 15 families, are actually part of the 28 longhouse projects specially designed to cater for the close-knit Rungus community in the area.

These 28 longhouses, including four still under construction for the Kota Marudu parliamentary area, were built in the last five years by the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) under the Prime Minister’s Department, the National Security Council and Rural and Regional Development Ministry.

The 24 completed projects have benefited some 3,000 people from 600 families in Matunggong.

Kota Marudu Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili when launching the long house here over the weekend said the project showed that the Barisan Nasional government cares for the wellbeing of the people.

“The opposition parties have been coming here, pinpointing the ruling party’s weaknesses when they themselves may not be able to fulfil.

“Some of the opposition leaders were with the government before, and yet these problems were not solved when they had the power to do so,” said Ongkili, who is also the Energy, Green Technology

Touching on the newly completed RM1 million worth longhouse, Ongkili said the four under construction longhouses and expected to be completed soon.
