MCDF Mobilises Two Teams To Monitor Floods In Lahad Datu

LAHAD DATU: The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (MCDF) has mobilised two teams to monitor the flood situation here after several villages were inundated when a river overflowed its banks due to continuous rain since yesterday.

Its officer-in-charge in Lahad Datu , Lieutenant Asby Mohd Anwar said the two teams had been mobilised since early this morning to monitor, among others, Kampung Segama Lama and Kampung Sapagaya, due to fear of flash floods there.

‘’Despite several villages such as Kampung Segama Lama Batu 8 and Kampung Sepagaya being flooded, there is as yet no need to evacuate the residents to relief centres (PPS),’’ he said when contacted by Bernama, today.

However, he said MCDF was in a state of readiness and prepared to evacuate the residents if there was a need to do so and urged those with information related to floods to quickly contact the District Operations Control Centre at 089-880991 so that further action could be taken.

Meanwhile, a Bernama check found a stretch of Jalan Lahad Datu – Tungku under water and could not be used by small vehicles.

As a result, many vehicles were forced to turn back resulting in traffic congestion for a kilometre along that stretch of the road.
