Mayor Says Improvements Soon At Gaya Night Market To Woo Tourists

KOTA KINABALU: Kota Kinabalu City Hall will improve the attractions at Jalan Gaya Night Market to make them more appealing to visitors and tourists.

The Mayor Datuk Nordin Siman said among the improvements were the inclusion of cultural performances and buskers (street performers).

He said since the night market, now known as Api-Api Food Market @ Gaya Street, was launched last Dec 2 , it received encouraging response from foreign and domestic tourists.

A stall selling durians, which is very popular with tourists from China.

“Hence, City Hall will make various improvements to attract more visitors, thereby generating more business for traders in the area,” he told reporters after visiting the market Friday night.

Nordin, who was appointed Mayor on Jan 2, 2019, said the participation of traders at the night market was also encouraging.

The night market operates from 6 pm to 2 am every Friday and Saturday with stalls selling food, beverages, local fruits and handicrafts.

Jalan Gaya Street is a major tourist attraction and its popular Tamu, (a daytime open-air market) every Sunday will woo even more visitors.
