LAHAD DATU – Police shot dead a man believed to have acted aggressively and tried to hurt civilians in Kampung Merabung, Tungku near here Wednesday morning.

In the 7.20am incident, Ronald Engliong, in his 40s, died at the scene.

District police chief ACP Hamzah Ahmad said police received a distress call from the villagers.

“Policemen tried to calm him down but hard objects were hurled at them, causing injury to one of the policemen and had to be taken to hospital…police had to open fire,” he said.

The case is still being investigated, Hamzah added.
