KENINGAU: A villager sustained burns while trying to salvage his belongings from his house which was among seven houses destroyed in a fire at Kampung Ansip here Sunday morning where.
District Fire and Rescue Department station chief Mudi Pangiran said the distress call came at 10.58am and the team arrived at the scene at 11.15am.
“The fire was under control by 12.05pm. All seven houses were totally destroyed and a Kemas kindergarten was slightly damaged but the team managed to stop the raze from spreading to nearby houses.
“A man in his 20s also suffered burns on his back as he tried to rescue his belongings from his house – which was next to one of the houses burnt down.
“He was sent by the village folks to the district hospital for treatment,” said Mudi, adding that cause of fire is still being investigated.
Pensiangan Member of Parliament, Tan Sri Joseph Kurup later visited the victims and assured them he would try and get the necessary assistance from the relevant id departments.
