Man Dies, Another Seriously Injured In Labuan Crash


LABUAN: A 32-year-old passenger from Sarawak died while another (also passenger) was in coma in an accident on the Patau-Patau road Sunday morning.

The accident took place as their speeding van rammed into the truck parked by the roadside at 12.01am.

Following the collision, the van driver, identified as Justin Ngadan Anak Unggin suffered minor injuries while his passenger believed to be his workmate had severe head injuries and appeared to lapse into a coma.

After police and firemen arrived on the scene minutes after the incident, they were pulled out of the vehicle with their face covered in blood.

The deceased, Tugang Analysis Sigi from Sri Aman, Sarawak, 32, pronounced dead at the scene.

All of them (believed to be attached with oil and gas-related company) were sent to Labuan Nucleus Hospital with two of them still being treated.

The van struck at a high speed, causing severe damage to the van and serious head wounds to Justin.

Investigations revealed the victims were on their way back from town before the incident took place.

The police have urged witnesses to come forward and provide information.

Labuan police chief Supt. Muhamad Farid Ahmad reminded motorists to be alert with large trucks parking by the road side especially around the industrial zone of Rancha-Rancha.
