Member of Parliament for Labuan Datuk Rozman Isli said the affordable home project at Kg Ganggarak at price of over RM200, 000 per unit is for middle income earner is still in progress.

“The government is serious of resolving the housing issue, and we hope the people will understand the government’s serious attention to the issue, we want the low income earner can afford decent housing,” he said at the simultaneous annual branch meetings (Four Level) of Labuan UMNO Division here Sunday.

Rozman who is also the Labuan Corporation chairman said the government has various development plans for the island to ensure it is in tandem with the nation’s development.

“What we have said earlier on development projects, have been implemented, such as the almost completed RM12 million food court project for the local food operator, RM10 million Giat Mara project and the soon Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) project.

“The government had also approved the RM170 million of five kilometre coastal road project from Tanjung Taras, Membedai to Tanjung Aru near Labuan International School to improve the connectivity on the island and the work will start this year,” Rozman said.

He also hoped the proposed bridge linking Labuan to the mainland Sabah would be announced before the election.

On the issue of the lack of government projects awarded to local contractors, he said, the issue would be addressed effectively and amicably.

Rozman said the government projects are on open tender and all qualified contractors are eligible to take part in the tender process, and this may lead to difficulties of ensuring local contractor always get the job.
