Look To The East To Solve National Turmoil, Says Sabah PH

KOTA KINABALU: Pakatan Harapan leaders in Sabah have called on national leaders to look to the east for a solution to the political turmoil in the country.

They said this was because the political model adopted in East Malaysia was mature in the context of both multi-racial politics and religion.

“This can be translated into the political context of the country,” said Sabah PH leaders Datuk Christina Liew of PKR, Datuk Frankie Poon of DAP and Lahirul Latigu of Amanah in a joint statement today.

“It is high time for Sabah and Sarawak leaders to be given strategic roles in leading the country because of their wisdom and maturity in managing ethnic and religious diversity.”

Stating that Sabah PH was taking a serious view of the crisis at national level due to the ongoing political unrest and power struggle they stressed that the mandate of the people must be restored.

“Religious and racial conflicts need to be minimised in building the nation,” they said, adding, “we do not want this country to be dragged into racial prejudice that becomes future time bombs.”

So Sabah PH proposed that the political formula in East Malaysia especially in Sabah serve as a reference to the national leadership in overcoming the political uncertainties in the country.

In the context of the state, they said the government led by the Parti Warisan Sabah needs to be maintained for the political stability of the state.

“Sabah PH fully supports Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal to continue the state leadership which has so far proved to benefit the people of Sabah as a whole,” thy said.

On its part Sabah PH would focus on efforts to help rebuild the state’s economy and ensure that Sabahans can survive the Covid-19 challenge and return the state as the world’s leading tourism destination.
