Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu initiated the season’s festivities at the hotel with a choral performance by 15 children from Kinabalu International School.
A Christmas tree lighting ceremony with about 70 invited guests held simultaneously provided an appreciative audience for the children who filled the air with magical tunes of Christmas Carols and 25 #deafjam performers who did a sign language flashmob at The Hub, lobby level.
Lead by Charmaine Ku, the school’s music teacher, the children performed 2 sessions of carols which lasted about 25 minutes each.
They performed songs such as Santa Claus is coming to Town, Rudolph The Red-nosed Reindeer, Jingle Bells and many more, much to the crowd’s delight. The children, aged 6 to 10 years old, had spent about 3-4 months practising their singing prior to the evening and enhanced their repertoire with violins, flutes and a saxophone.
Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu and Tapuk- Tapuk, a non-government creative collective, collaborated and brought 32 students, teachers, volunteers and hotel associates together for a sign language mini workshop and sign language flash mob.
The sign language mini workshop and a Deaf Jam Flash Mob took place after the tree lighting ceremony.
The cocktail also gave guests the opportunity to appreciate holiday decorations in the hotel’s recently renewed public spaces and be updated on the various dining and socialising hour promotions for the season.
