KOTA KINABALU – President of Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah (Harapan Rakyat) Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin has expressed regret over the member-stealing activity which has been rampant among local opposition parties in Sabah.

He said such an activity should not have happened as the parties involved had a common ideology of being the opposition.

“…but, each opposition party in Sabah is now working hard to increase their membership, to the extent of stealing members from other opposition parties, including from us.

“I don’t think any political parties should be doing this,” he told reporters after announcing the party’s top leadership line-up here.

While saying that Harapan Rakyat would not be stealing members from existing local opposition parties, Lajim said the party would definitely try to lure new members from opposition parties from the peninsula in Sabah.

Harapan Rakyat’s registration was approved by the Registrar of Societies on Oct 24. With the approval, Sabah now has two new opposition parties to contest in the 14th general election.
