LABUAN: Member of Parliament for Labuan Datuk Rozman Isli thanked the Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal to include Labuan as part of the recipients of the 30 per cent discount incentive on monthly electricity bill for three month beginning April.
“We should be grateful to God the Almighty and thankful to the Chief Minister Datuk Seri Shafie for the generosity, and caring towards our predicament in Labuan.
“The businesses here are struggling to make ends meet with the business activities are slowing down, lower income earner had also been impacted with lesser overtime, and the petty traders are also not spared as they are unable to go out to do business,” he said today.
Shafie today unveiled the RM670 million COVID-19 Stimulus Package (Pakej Bantuan COVID-9), with among others he announced the 30 per cent discount incentive of monthly electricity bills involving RM365.65 million allocation that would benefit 512, 000 users in Sabah and Labuan.
Rozman said the inclusion of Labuan being the recipient of the 30 per cent discount incentive, despite being administered by Federal Government as a federal territory, showed the Sabah Government had not sidelined the duty-free-island, after having been surrendered to the Federal Government.
“Alhamdulillah, the Chief Minister listens to my request to help ease the people’s plight in Labuan during this trying times… to fully comply with the Movement Control Order, people are staying at home most of the time…certainly, the people are worried over the surge in the monthly electricity bills..the Sabah Government’s generosity is a great relief to the people in Labuan,” he said.
Shafie said the stimulus package to ease the impact of the Covid-19 outbreak on Sabah and its people.
The package contained 15 steps to be undertaken by the Sabah Government, targeted on various groups in business and the community.
He said the implementation of the package will cover the whole of Sabah, regardless of districts/areas or people’s political inclination.
