LABUAN: The Labuan girl’s rugby team, representing the Federal Territory, is intensifying preparations for its bid to enter the final round of the Selangor Federation Rugby Championship 2019 this weekend.
The squad started training three weeks ago, and head coach Rashid Adli has announced a 13-strong team.
Rashid said he was aware most of the rival teams have prepared longer for this season, but he hopes Labuan’s team would deliver.
“If we want to have good and strong team in the championship, we need full support from all players in order to have decent preparation,” he told reporters when met at the Dataran Labuan field.
The team is scheduled to play against Terengganu team followed by the Kedah SUKMA team on the opening day in the two-day championship.
“This is also part of our preparation for the Sukma 2020, and our participation in tis championship will not be possible without the financial aid from the Majlis Sukan Wilayah Persekutuan (MSWP),” he said.
The latest achievement of Labuan girl’s rugby team was winning the Rugby Hornbill 7s in Miri Sarawak in April this year.
