Labuan: Fourth-Former Beaten In Gang Attack; Pizza Hut Crew Dies

LABUAN: A 16-year-old student from a secondary school here told police he was beaten by a group of juvenile near the school’s hostel hall last Thursday (Oct 11).

The form-four student was walking alone towards an open space at the school compound at about 5.47pm and was suddenly approached by four fifth-formers.

He was first attacked by one student before the others joined in the vicious attack on him which went on for about 15 minutes. No other student or teachers noticed the attack.

The scuffle resulted in the victim sustaining bruises on his head, scratches on his neck, injury to hands and foots, as well as a broken finger.

Labuan police chief, Supt Muhamad Farid Ahmad said the victim who is the school’s prefect was beaten after the latter lodged complaints to the disciplinary teacher that senior students were smoking in the school compound.

All the four students were apprehended after being brought to the police station by the school teachers on Oct 12, and subsequently remanded for four days.

The case was being investigated under Section 325 of the Penal Code.

In another case, a Pizza Hut crew member was killed and his pillion rider injured when the motorcycle they were on collided with a sport utility vehicle at the traffic light opposite the Mariner Hotel here early Sunday.

The 22-year-old youth died on the spot in the 12.18 am crash.

The pillion rider, who is also a Pizza Hut crew, sustained serious injuries and sought treatment at a hospital while the 36-year-old Mitsubishi Pajero Sport driver escaped unhurt.

Supt Muhamad said the victims were on their way back home from an evening shift when the crash occurred.

He said the impact of the crash caused them to be hurled from the machine.
