LABUAN, Dec 16 — Labuan police seized 25 motorcycles, nabbed five drug addicts during ‘Ops Samseng Jalanan’ mounted at eight locations in the duty-free-island here Saturday night till Sunday morning.
Labuan police chief Supt. Muhamad Farid Ahmad said 60 motorcyclists were stopped in roadblocks mounted from 10.30pm on Saturday until 5.45am Sunday from villages to the town centre.
Farid who led the operation said 73 personnel from the various departments of the police contingent and National Anti-Drug Agency were involved in the operation and they also issued 45 summonses for various traffic offences.
The offences committed were for riding without licence and insurance coverage, riding without road tax, modified exhaust, without side mirrors, not displaying ‘L’ sticker, modified number plates and missing chain cover among others.
“The operation was in response to the villagers’ concern over illegal racing and our efforts of getting rid of street hooligans,” he said.
Farid said those found tested positive to an illicit drug would be charged in court while those whose motorcycles seized would be investigated and facing possible court charges.
