SANDAKAN – The DAP Sabah has condemned Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Tan Sri Joseph Kurup for what is claims is malicious and baseless accusations against DAP Parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang.

They want Kurup, who is also PBRS president to show concrete proof and evidence over such claims, otherwise he should apologize openly to Kit Siang because such statement is totally irresponsible.

DAP Sabah Chairman Stephen Wong in a statement said he was referring to Kurup’s statement earlier that Kit Siang “was promoting political extremism” during his visits to Pensiangan and other interior areas in Sabah.

Wong said that Kurup is a politician with no integrity, saying he had confronted Kurup twice in Parliament.

“The first is when I brought up the issue (in Parliament in 2015) where I said solar lamp posts were installed yet there was no electricity supplied in Pensiangan

“Kurup replied by telling lies that it was already settled,” said Wong. “However after verification by a DAP grassroots member, it was proven that Kurup lied about it to Parliament.

Wong said he raised another electricity scandal at Sook in Parliament where electricity poles and transformers had been installed yet no electricity was supplied.

“Again Kurup responded in the Parliament that these issues were settled as well. However DAP Pensiangan coordinator Adrian Lasimbang visited the area and confirmed that this was not so,” Wong alleged.

He described these two examples that show Kurup has totally no integrity and is irresponsible.

“He should admit the truth that his area is still in bad situation lacking of basic infrastructure and he should try to fix it instead of telling lies in Parliament,” said Wong.

Wong stressed that Kurup should not have lied in the Parliament because it is also disrespectful to the people in his constituency.

“As a seasoned and experienced politician, and as a long-serving Parliamentarian from Pensiangan, Kurup should feel ashamed because of his failure to provide such basic necessities to the people who have voted for him,” added the Sandakan MP.

He defended Kit Siang who had worked so hard and willing to travel to interior areas to champion for people’s rights and needs.

“This is the type of leader whom Sabahans want,” he charged.
