Keep Motorcycles Well Maintained; Ride Responsibly On Labuan Roads

LABUAN: Motorcyclists have been advised to ensure that they keep their machines well maintained at all times so as not to spend more when it breaks down.

Member of Parliament Rozman Isli also said a well maintained motorcycle could ensure the overall safety of its rider and pillion as oftentimes accidents occur due to faulty brakes or other issues associated with poor maintenance.

“Continuous service will help prolong the life span of the engine, and ensure the smooth ride during the ‘balik kampung’ session,” he said at the recent ‘free motor service’ by Labuan Umno Youth in conjunction with the Hari Raya celebration.

Rozman also urged motorcyclists to value their lives as well as not endanger the lives of other road users by not being road menaces.

Some 500 Labuanites received the free motor service voucher.

Meanwhile, more than 800 motorists with machines of 150 cc and below got the monthly ‘Free Petrol Top Up’ another Umno Youth initiative to help lessen the burden of the low income motorists especially the youth.

Labuan Umno youth chief Mohd Rafi Ali Hassan said the programmes were aimed at establishing the good rapport between the local leaders and the youth.

Rafi denied talk that the programme was to attract voters in preparation for the 14th general election, but said it was to help the youth who had been affected by the slowdown of the oil and gas sector.

“We started the ‘Free Petrol Top Up’ programme last year, after considering the economic issues faced by the people on the island due to the closure of oil and gas company and operation here.

Rafi who is also the political secretary of the Minister of Federal Territory said the programme was to help the youth especially those who have been jobless.
