LABUAN: Rozman Isli hope more local athletes would contribute to the national sports development in the future in the core sports games.

The Labuan federal lawmaker also hopes senior or retired athletes can mentor and coach the young athletes in the future so that they too can excel.

He said the athletes who have gone on to excel and win in the international arena like the just-concluded SEA Games have made not only Labuan proud but also the country as a whole.

“Labuan had long been contributing to the national sports development with many of our athletes created big names in many national sports games,” he said at a press conference after officiating at the National Day Labuan-level at the Labuan Square here Sunday.

Four local athletes who earned medals in the just-concluded Sea Games received cash incentives in conjunction with the Malaysia Day celebration on Sunday.

The athletes are Nur Ain Nabila Tarmizi (Gold – Lawn Bowl), Siti Shazwana Ajak (Gold – Pencak Silat), as well as Christina Edris and Siti Farhanita Maddin (Rugby Women Team – Bronze) received RM10,000 and RM3,000 respectively from the Labuan Member of Parliament’s Office and Yayasan Pembangunan Labuan.
