LABUAN – Almost 1, 000 local and foreign participants took part in the inaugural Bukit Kubong Extreme Sport Games and Bicycle Fun Ride at Kg Lubok Temiang here Sunday.
The programme as part of the Federal Territory Day events was aimed at transforming Bukit Kubong into another Labuan’s sport tourism product.
Member of Parliament for Labuan Datuk Rozman Isli said the programme which has attracted foreign participants from United Kingdom (UK) and Brunei would be improved and to be listed as Labuan annual tourism event.
“We can see the crowd and it is a success event. We will organise again next year with participation from various states and countries,” he said after flagging off the Bukit Kubong Run at Kg Lubok Temiang.
Rozman said the historical sites of old grave yards, Gedung Ubat (World War II weapons storage) and Raffles Anchorage among others along the Bukit Kubong track would add value to the newly-transformed tourism spot.
The event, initiated by Kg Lubok Temiang Neighbourhood Watch (Kawasan Rukun Tetangga – RKT) was in collaboration with Department of National Unity and Integration Labuan (JPNIN), Labuan Corporation and several neighbourhood watches.
“The newly-transformed tourism spot of Bukit Kubong is able to attract ‘nature lover’ and extreme sports athletes.
“We have built new track spanning about 4.5km for climbers and extreme sports athletes, it is quite challenging adventure,” he said.
The event chief coordinator Wahidah Abdullah said the number of participants took part in the fun filled adventure today was unexpected.
“We are glad to be able to organise four events of Sun Rise Adventure, Sun Rise Photography Contest, Bukit Kubong Run and Bicycle Fun Ride in one extreme programme, and we look forward to organise next year,” she said.
