KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) has failed miserably to the test of “authority and accountability” particularly with regard to the issue of illegal immigrants in Sabah.
Martin Tommy, a Warisan Supreme Council member said PBS Information Chief Jahid Jahim should ask his former president, Joseph Pairin Kitingan as to what happened to the Royal Commission Inquiry (RCI) Report on illegal immigrants.
“He (Pairin) was supposed to have made known the report but until today he has kept it close to his chest for reasons only best known to him.”
“Why are PBS leaders such as Jahid not pursuing the matter,” he queried in reply to PBS lawmaker’s statement on the issue of illegal immigrants.
Martin said PBS, whose core struggle is to champion the issue of Illegal immigrants, had been given the chance to prove itself to the Sabahans through the appointment of Pairin as chairman of the RCI Technical Committee but failed to impress or deliver to the satisfaction of the local people.
On Monday, Jahid hit out at the Warisan-led Sabah government forallegedly issuing MyKads to illegal immigrants in the State.
In rebuttal to Jahid’s allegation against Warisan Permanent Chairman cum Law Minister Datuk Liew Vui Keong that he had allegedly issued Mykads to people at his service centre in Batu Sapi, Martin said that it reflects Jahid’s immaturity and inability to understand the procedure on how a MyKad can be issued to an applicant.
“If he has been diligent enough and not been too ignorant, he would know that only the National Registration Department (NRD) has the authority to do so after vetting all the necessary documentation,” he said, adding that no one including Liew has the authority to do so.
“For the record, he (Liew) had denied that his service centre had offered any service for issuance of any Mykad for anyone,” he said.
In fact, a police report has been lodged against such unfounded allegation, he added.
According to Martin, Jahid is spitting saliva on his own face when he made wild allegations against Warisan leaders for allegedly issuing Mykads to illegal immigrants when none of them had the power to do so.
“Is he too scared of his own shadow and now trying to divert the attention to Warisan?” he questioned.
Martin went on saying that Jahid is also worried about Warisan Deputy President cum International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Darell Leiking’s statement because he knows it is the truth that Warisan has never given any Mykad to illegal immigrants or anyone else for that matter.
“The allegation by Jahid that the NRD at scene of fire (to issue MyKad) soon afterward is a very serious allegation.”
“I challenge him to make a police report and if not I will report against him and let police investigate his allegation,” he said.
Towards this end, Martin said Jahid is merely trying to make himself and PBS relevant when it is obvious that the people in Sabah had rejected PBS in the last election.
